A few enhancements...

I've come up with a few possible things that could make Evolt even better and provide more use to all of us. -the ability to easily unsubscribe/subscribe to thelist via a checkbox in the user's registration page -in the archives page to see a list of the recent postings for the day, categorized by subject/replies and than have the ability to be able to respond online to any of these articles if the user is currently unsubscribed to the list but a member of evolt -the ability to post to thelist online in the archives it they are currently unsubscribed to the list I know the last 2 suggestions could be difficult and not too feasible at the momemt. But hopefully some consideration will be give to it and possibly allow this to work in the future. I know the last 2 would help out a lot of us, especially when we need to limit incoming emails but still want to be active on the list.

i like these suggestions alot. this is the way houseoffusion.com does it for the oh-so-hip cf-talk list. the contents of the list are actually spit out in a newsgroup style and people that are subbed can post from the site. it's very handy, but not an easy system to set up.

All good ideas, but very difficult to do since thelist and thesite are not only hosted on different servers, but different OS's, and use different databases.. Other than that though, shouldnt be a problem :) Hopefully, some of these changes take place when we get moved to a new server.

eVolt - The new look

It is possible that this is a transitory look for the site but it does not look as georgous as the previous one. True the colour choice now means you wont go blind reading it and you can vary the font (thankyou god). But it looks unfinished (tho quicker) - glad evolt is back online/alive again.

Also it seems that it requires more clicks to post a comment, also cant seem to messages the system designers directly as I dont want to be too public in these comments as I am not bitching.

I am interested in the the performance changes with this new implementation (not a fan of LAMP but if it is all that is required to do the job then...) likewise would be interested in the technical architecture of the new inplimentation (lessons learnt).

Lastly you could do with setting some of your input forms to width:100% to make better use of available space.
Again only my opinion.

re: eVolt - The new look

I seem to be able to post a comment in 2 clicks just as with the old system (Preview & Submit)... not sure what you mean by needing more clicks. And do you see the Contact link at top-right?

Re: performance - moving away from table-based code will naturally reduce the amount of data being sent for each request. We're also heavily caching pages served to non-logged in users. There is a drupal module that auto-reduces the db load required to deliver pages when the server comes under heavy traffic by switching off subsidiary content & functionality. It's certainly on our radar, should we need it.

There is a drupal module vs AJAX and wot knot.

Is the druple module just a PHP thing or is it a principle that can be applied to other implimentations such as classic ASP? I am tending to use SQLXML into xslt for a lot of content partly cos I was focused on the effectiveness of data delivery from the db, and of course the xslt can be cached cos it changes so little. Are there any articles about how you identified 'heavy traffic' as from an IIS point of you, you would just talk to the IIS api. However not looked at it in a gracefull service reduction view point yet which druple may have. As for the new style I have noticed some odd features like using your mouse to Select and Copy text seems to opperate a text selection some lines below - like the text is not where I think it is with my eyes. Also the content is often in a block at the bottom of the page when until I reduce the font to 'smaller'. This is true both on my 1024 sized laptop and a 1600 screen. So not sure if that is related to the CSS via table choice?

I think a shoutbox and who's

I think a shoutbox and who's online tab will get this site more visitors- so there's a sense of thriving community!
